Boy in Space, the musical project of Swedish artist Robin Lundback, creates the perfect hybrid of confessional, personal songwriting and trippy, modern beats. Adding an electronic edge to the classic singer-songwriter formula, Boy in Space is the latest in a line of young artists who seem to have a firm vision of what the future of pop music sounds like.
The latest Boy in Space single, “Caroline”, is the perfect sample of Lundback’s signature style: the trope of lovesick pining reaches new heights behind hip-hop, trap-inspired beats. The music video complements this duality, with Lundback singing over alternating plain beige and swirling neon settings. About the inspiration for the track, Lundback said that “Caroline is that girl that you're crushing on but is completely out of your league and untouchable. We all knew a Caroline growing up.”
The young singer had a great year on streaming services in 2019, where his collaboration with teen producer unheard, “Cold”, reached over 12 million streams on Spotify. “Caroline” is the first of three singles set to be released by Boy in Space in Spring 2020.
