Ruby the Hatchet opened up for Kadavar and played an early sold out interstellar psychedelic doom set at Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, NY on Thursday December 12, 2019.
Formed in 2011, this band went from basement jams in New Jersey to later relocating to Philadelphia before the touring life. Hands down this is one of the hardest working bands out today that stand out due to their sound thats almost a blast from the past. This five piece band consists of the haunting and witchy trademark vocals of Jillian Taylor, Johnny Scarps on guitar, Lake Muir on bass, Owen Stewart on Drums, and Sean Hur on the organ.
While watching Ruby the Hatchet, you are transfixed on the sound and groove along to their songs as if you're back in time of the Woodstock days. To put into words what they sound like, let's just say it's like dropping some LSD and getting on a spaceship because this band is the prime example of psychedelic hard rock.
Since 2017 they haven't released any new material until recently putting out Easy Livin' (can be heard on Spotify) and they surprised fans at the Saint Vitus Bar show by playing not one but two brand new songs they're testing out before they go back into the recording studio to put out a new album. I got the chance to chat with Jillian after their set, according to her they're hoping for a late 2020 release and I speak for all the fans when I say, it will be worth the wait.
Keep up to date with this groovy band with the links below and be on the lookout for when they go on tour. Currently they're finishing off 2019 with Kadavar in the U.S. until the end of December and if they roll through your town, show up early to catch this band open the show because trust me, it will be well worth it. And don't forget to pass by their merchandise table, the band always makes an appearance after they load out and they're always up for speaking to the fans.
